“I don’t even know where to start…”
You feel exhausted by the simplest of tasks.
It’s hard to feel motivated.
You feel lonely and misunderstood.
Depression is not
who you are.
If you’re feeling this way, please know that change is possible! You are not alone.
Do you have these types of repetitive thoughts?
I don’t know what to do with my life.
I hate who I am these days.
I feel exhausted all the time.
I’m worthless and there’s no hope for my future.
Nobody understands how I feel and no one cares.
Why am I crying for no reason?
There’s a heaviness in my chest and it won’t go away.
If you have these types of thoughts frequently, you may be experiencing depression.
Fortunately, depression is very treatable! Most people have felt this way at some point of their life, which makes the research for treating depression extensive. Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness-Based Interventions have been shown to be extremely effective in treating symptoms of depression. Click here to learn more about CBT. Click here to learn more about Mindfulness. Many of my clients feel some relief in their depression in the first few sessions of therapy. It is also very common for people who experience depression to also have symptoms of anxiety. Depression and anxiety can be easily intertwined.
Depression is not who you are. I like to think of depression as a mental and physical barrier. For example, if you took a fall and sustained an acute injury, you would most likely go to a doctor to receive treatment. You would not want to continue your everyday activities with that injury weighing you down mentally and physically. Depression is like an injury that needs to be healed. Your depression or injury is not your identity, though at times it can feel this way. Sometimes depression can fade in slowly and be less apparent, which is why many individuals wait to seek treatment until it worsens. You don’t have to wait! You are ready to stop feeling depressed.
